Form-Color-Light (FoCoLUM) Lab and Research Group in Illumination and Design (GRID)
Description
The GRID is a place dedicated to experimentation and research into perceptive effects related to light. Although light is at the source of our perception of colors and shapes, its influence on our vision and our understanding of the immediate environment is complex and subtle. By exploring the luminous effects produced by different sources we can better understand the action of light on our sensory perception and our experience. The FoCOLUM laboratory and GRID research group therefore constitute a test bench for understanding the influence of light on our perception of shapes and color and for evaluating the many possible spatial interventions by light in various environments.
The GRID is a multidisciplinary group whose members hail from such environments as building, industrial and interior design, entertainment, architecture, rehabilitation and health. Forming, as it does, a crossroads where these various disciplines meet, it is a privileged work setting where the different perspectives can be woven together to form an interdisciplinary approach. In addition, the laboratory serves as a test bench for studying emerging materials which are giving rise myriad esthetic expressions and an atmosphere now of perpetuity then of transience. The laboratory space and its installations are designed for developing sophisticated simulations involving the use of light. These simulations allow students, professors and researchers to explore, analyze and interpret a range of lighting situations, both physical and virtual, conjured up from all the different fields of research involved.
