Research Team on Interaction, Social Inclusion and communication (ERIIC)

Description

The ERIIC team’s interest lies in communication, communication between people of all ages—from infants to seniors –who live with a communication problem, be it developmental, or acquired, such as aphasia or other cognitive-communicative disorders due to a stroke or a cranio-cerebral trauma. Teamwork here usually involves not only the person with the disorder but also those around them: family, friends, careers, or strangers. In this way, students and team members try to understand the interactions and authentic communication in different conversation contexts including conversation used in daily living activities and interactions within the community, for example. A better understanding of authentic communication serves as a springboard for developing pragmatic or social interventions and different types of training that include the communication partners so as to facilitate communication, interaction and social inclusion among those who live with communication problems. Many of the team’s projects use qualitative or mixed methods derived from traditional conversation analysis.
