Dr. Eva Kehayia is associate professor at the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy, Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. A neurolinguist and psycholinguist by training, She is interested in the study of lexical access and representation, using a variety of methodologies, across different languages, among individuals with acquired and degenerative language limitations, as well as in healthy adults. Over the past 20 years, she has been co-leading pan-Canadian initiatives investigating word processing and the Mental Lexicon across languages and populations. Currently, she is co-leading a pan-Canadian Partnership Initiative funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council entitled: ‘Words in the World’. She is also interested in the study of the impact of language disorders on individual’s everyday life and social participation. Her psycholinguistic and neurolinguistic research is conducted from out in the Language and Communication Research Lab at the Jewish Rehabilitation Hospital of the CISSS Laval.
Dr. Bonnie Swaine is full professor at the École de réadaptation, Faculty of Medicine at Université de Montréal. A physical therapist by training, her research interests include the development, implementation and evaluation of rehabilitation services, primarily those provided to children and adults with a traumatic brain injury (TBI), the development of assessment tools, as well epidemiology related to TBI. With her expertise in TBI rehabilitation, she recently co-led the adaptation and the development of a clinical practice guideline for adults with moderate and severe TBI. Her research is conducted in and from the Quality of Rehabilitation services research Lab at the CIUSSS Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal located at 6300, Avenue de Darlington, in Montreal, Quebec.
From 2011 to 2015, Dr. Kehayia and Dr. Bonnie Swaine co-led the Strategic Innovation Project funded by the Fonds recherche Quebec en Santé and entitled: A rehabilitation living lab: creating enabling environments for social participation and inclusion for individuals with physical, sensory and cognitive disabilities. This project provided the groundwork for the Intersectoral Initiative ‘Towards a more inclusive Quebec society’ funded by the Fonds de recherche Quebec for which Eva Kehayia and Bonnie Swaine are two of the co-founders.
